WELCOME TO THE NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION

The Nigerian Baptist Convention, which Thomas Jefferson Bowen started in 1850, has grown into over 10,000 Churches with about 3,000,000 baptized members and up to 6.5 million non-baptized members spread across the nation. This denominational entity has metamorphosed into twenty-three Conferences (ecclesiastical regions) in Nigeria alone. The work has spread to several other African nations including Republic of Benin, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Chad, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The United Kingdom and the United States of America are also experiencing the influence of its growth and expansion.

                                 The Righteous LiveS By Faith
Habakkuk 2:1-5

Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” Galatians 3:11, NIV

The problem with all world religions is that they lay very long rules by which their adherents have to live to be acceptable before God. Not only are these rules cumbersome, most of them are not attainable. Even if they are, they will not lead one to be acceptable to God, since they are man-made rules. In Christianity, on the other hand, God who wants us to please Him has made all that is needed available to us. He gives us faith by which we can be saved and with the same faith we live to enjoy salvation and eternal life. From the text read, it is clear that there is nothing we can do by our human efforts that will give us good standing before God. We are saved by accepting what God did through His only Son, Jesus, on the cross of calvary. In the same vein, we are to continue to enjoy every good thing that God provides by trusting and relying on Him.

As simple as this may look, it is not simplistic or naïve as some people think. We exercise our faith in Him by refusing to accomplish things in our human power. We trust Him to do in and through us all things because we do not rely on our human abilities to do things right by ourselves. This is our faith in action! Our righteousness comes from our standing in Christ who took our position on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21). RBT Passage: Lev. 4, 5; Matt. 26: 26-46
