The Bible emphasis both in Old and New Testament that the poor and needing will always be among us (Deut. 15:11, Matthew 26:11) Therefore we the strong must always put smiles on their faces. This new ministry was given a face lift by the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. S.A Ishola in 2008.

We bless the name of the Lord, in his life. This was the first the social ministries became a separate ministry. The department was also given the opportunity to feature for the first time at the Convention in session at Ibadan. An emphasis was presented to the entire Baptist family and the need for the ministry to be established in all churches of the Convention.

Our Operations
For easy coordination and proper monitoring we have divided the whole ministry into four distinct divisions.

  1. Prison Ministries
  2. Home Care and Orphanage Ministries
  3. Relief and Rehabilitation Ministry
  4. Addicts and Psychopathic Ministries

2009 Activities
1. The awareness drive is still on and we hope to complete this as soon as possible.

2. There is going to be the social ministry hour programme at the Convention Session in Benin on Tuesday April 21, by 2p.m. The venue is Victory Baptist Church, on the same compound with the Convention venue.

3. The first week of May, May 3-6, 2009 is the Social Ministries Emphasis Week in all churches of the Convention. There is going to be a programme booklet for that week and this will be sold at the Convention. We plead with all of our churches to participate in the emphasis in obedience to our master’s command. Offerings collected on that Sunday should be sent to the Social Ministries Nigerian Baptist Convention, Baptist Building and write social ministries offering when sending it.

4. Social Ministries Conference: For the first time in the history of the Convention there is going to be the above mentioned conference in 7 zones between July and August 2009. Each of the three geographical zones has been divided into two or more.
West I: includes Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo Conferences.
West II: inlucles Ogbomoso, Oyo West, Oke-Ogun, Kwara, and Kogi Conferences.
East I: includes Edo and Delta Conference

East III: Hope Conference – Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers
North I: includes Bethel, United, Sabon Rai, Niger Kebbi and Kafachan conference

During these conferences, all the arms of social ministries will be involved, therefore those expected there are : Prison ministries workers, Home care and orphanage, Relief and Rehabilitations and Psychopatics division workers. All these four divisions will be expected to function in all of our churches. Please pray along with us as we plan and work out the plan.

End of year programme – Please pray along with us as we plan on what will be our outreach programme this year and be ready to be our mouth piece as we solicit for money to execute the programme.

We hope by the grace of God to begin the development of this centre as soon as possible. We will need the assistance of blessed people of our Convention family
to assist in this too.

May the Lord continually depend on us all.
