Prison Ministries This ministers to both inmate and ex-inmates. This is done in collaboration with churches. We visit, care, and provide. We also plan rehabilitation on ex-inmates. This year we plan to add to it discipleship such that before their jail term, they would have been totally won to the Lord. The officer in charge is Rev. S.A Akande.
Prison Ministry
We have active fellowships in the following places; Lagos, Ibadan, Oyo, Kaduna, Jos, Port Harcourt. These fellowships meet on monthly or bi-monthly basis as the case may be. We have the members from our Baptist Churches, Associations and Conferences. The work of these fellowships include visitation to prisons, care giving and support, and supporting inmates and ex-inmates family, and winning inmates and their family for Christ. This ministry decided to take a step forward. Our effort in having our own standard structure in line with the United Nations human right for organizations like ours has started yielding results. Presently we have such structure in the following conferences, Lagos, Oyo West, Bethel, Central and Rivers. Efforts are being made to spread to other conferences before the year 2009 runs out.
National Conference For the first time, Baptist Prison Ministry National Conference was decentralized. This has enabled us to reach out better. The National Conference took place at three zones, Lagos Conference hosted Lagos and Ogun, from 7-9th of August 2008, Central Conference – Jos hosted the Northern Conferences 21st-23rd August 2008 while Oyo West Conference hosted, Oyo West, Ogbomoso and Oke-Ogun in September 2008. The theme for the conference was Restorative Justice course I; we hope to continue with course II this year.
Baptismal Service In 2008 baptismal service was held for a total number of 86 inmates at Agodi Prison in Ibadan. We also thank our churches and the Gideon International donated Bible to these inmates.
