BAPTIST PRAYER AND FASTING NETWORK

PRAYER FOR THE SELECTION OF THE NEW GENERAL SECRETARY

1.            Thanksgiving: Thank God for the lives of all our former General Secretaries and their family members. Praise God for all who had served. Praise God for all their achievements and give God all the glory. Pray for Rev Dr Solomon Ademola Ishola who is presently serving. Thank God for all that God has accomplished in NBC during his tenure in office (Psalm 148).

2.             Confession: Pray for mercy; that God will have mercy on the  Nigerian Baptist Convention, have mercy on us and forgive us all our sins and trespasses, (Acts 3:19). Confess as many of our sins as the Holy Spirit convicts you of.

3.             Search Committee: Pray that God will be the chairman of the Search Committee for the selection of the new General Secretary. Pray that God will be interested in the affairs of NBC. Pray He will be jealous over His people and take control (Isaiah 55:4).

4.             Search Committee: Pray that God will sanctify the Search Committee. Pray that God will cleanse their hands, purify their eyes, and open their eyes and ears to the will of God. (1Sam 16: 6-7).

5.             Search Committee: Bind the minds and thoughts of the Search Committee and the E.C to your mind, oh Jesus. Pray that God will work in the mind and thought of the Search Committee and the convention EC. (Isaiah 55:8-9).

6.             Search Committee: Loose the minds of the Search Committee from every stronghold that may want to manipulate them against the mind of Christ. (Eph 6:10).

7.             Strongholds: Destroy every satanic stronghold, every demonic networking in the high and low places that will want to hinder the emergence of God's choice for the service. (1Peter 5:8, Mat 26:31,2Sam 15:31-34).

8.             Procedure: Overtake and overturn every carnal strategy of selection process and procedure, no matter how deeply it has been entrenched in our tradition. Replace it, oh Lord, with your Holy Spirit led procedure (2 Cor 10:3-4).

9.             Mobilisation: Pray that God will mobilise our hearts to have faith in His choice of a G.S for us. Pray God will restrain us from manipulative moves. Pray that God will help us to trust Him alone and we will all accept His choice for us. Pray that God will mobilise us to join hands together and bring spiritual revival to the Body of Christ.

10.          Mobilisation: Pray that God will mobilise our hearts to pray and intercede continually until His will and agenda for Nigerian Baptist Convention is achieved. Send your revival, oh Lord. ( Ezek 22:30).

11.          Followership: Pray for followership of  NBC, that we will be easy to lead as we respond to shepherd’s staff and rod. Pray that God will not need to give us a G.S that will lead us with thorns and thistles (Psalm 32:8-9).

12.          Congregational System: Break the arrogance of democratic procedure which filters into our congregational system of government and threatens to push out the leadership of the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:1-3).

13.          Baptist Polity: Pray that God will baptise Baptist polity and procedure with grace and mercy so He can give us leaders indeed. Pray that our polity will not make our G.S object of politicking and easy manipulation. Pull down every negative stronghold in the polity (2 Peter 1: 5-11; 1John 4:1-6).

14.          Responsive to Jesus' Change: Pray for both leadership and followership of the Nigerian Baptist Convention for grace to respond to Holy Spirit-led change and restructuring. Pray we will cooperate with God whenever Jesus the Bridegroom wants to work on His Bride, the Church, to make Her perfect.(John 10:3-5).

15.          Born Again and Flowing with River of Life:  Pray that God will give us a General Secretary who is born again, Holy Spirit filled, Holy Spirit led; a man who drinks daily from the River of Life and is overflowing with the life of Christ with enough to give millions in the Body of Christ. (John 3: 5-7; John 7:37-38; Ezekiel 47).      

                Carry His Cross: God give us a leader who will deny himself, carry his cross daily and follow Jesus.

16.          Qualified by God: Pray that God, will give us a General Secretary whose C.V meets the criteria of heaven. Pray we will be more concerned with heaven’s choice, standard, criteria and value measurement as stated in the Scripture than following civil service criteria and worldview. (1 Sam. 2:35).                                                                             

                A Standing with God: Pray for a G.S who has correct standing with God; a man who is not an alien to the heavenly council; a man who gets the unbroken attention of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. A person at whose word the hosts of angels tremble in readiness for service, and hell, plus his demons crumble in fear. Elijah says, “In the name of God before whom I stand.”

17.          Location:  Pray that God will fish out His anointed one whoever he is, wherever he is. Break down every barrier between God's will and our will. (1Sam 16:6-12).

18.          An Ardent Follower of Christ, well discipled to Disciple Others:  Pray that God will give us a leader who is a faithful, seasoned disciple of Jesus Christ. A person discipled enough to handle the key of the Church and not lock people out, a disciple who can disciple millions of others in the Baptist Church and across denominations. (Luke 9:23; Matthew 16:18-19).

19.          Family: God, give us a G.S whose wife is a help meet indeed; a wife who will be the true mother in the Convention; a woman of passion for Jesus, love for Christ concerns and readiness to serve; who has children who obey the Lord and can serve as models to other children. (1 Tim 3:1-13, Gen. 2:18 -23; Titus 1:5-9; Ephesians 5:24;  1 Peter 3: 1, Ephesians 6:1).

20.          Viable Altar: Pray that God will give us a G.S with viable altar and acceptable sacrifices; pray for one whose prayer altar will continually bring down abundant showers of blessing, healing virtues, deliverances and jubilee for the followers.  (Gen 4:3-7; 2 Chr 31:21).

21.          A Spiritual General:  Pray that God will give us a well-trained and equipped spiritual General, an experienced spiritual warrior, well clothed in spiritual armour who will lead the Church under Christ in spiritual warfare from one level of victory to another level of victory (Ephesians 6:10-17).

22.          Mission Consciousness: Pray that God will give us a G.S. under whose leadership the mission work of NBC will expand to the nations. Pray for a progressive leader, a missionary at heart, a kingdom builder, a soul winner, an evangelist at heart. (Romans 1:11-15).

23.          Rebuilder of Ancient Ruins: Pray that God will give us a G.S. who will amend what the enemy has destroyed in the Body of Christ. Pray for a leader who will give us a stronger biblical foundation, who will re-clothe the Church with righteousness and integrity (1Kings 18: 30 -31).

24.          Leadership Ability: Pray that God will give us a General Secretary who God Himself will lead to lead the Convention, the Church and the members. We reject a General Secretary who will be led by vanity, evil caucus, evil mafia, greed and occult. Give us a leader indeed, not one whom the sycophants will be leading to error (1Sam 15:11).

25.          Good Manager of NBC Spiritual Resources: Pray that God will give us a G.S. who will manage spiritual resources of NBC profitably; making sure there are spiritual planting, pruning, harvesting and replanting all year round. (2 Timothy 2:20-21).

26.          Holiness, Truth and Integrity. God, give us a leader whose target is to be holy and perfect as our God is perfect. Give us a true and faithful leader whose word can be believed, trusted and followed. Give us a man of truth whose yes is yes and no is no. (Titus 1: 7-9, 2 John 2:1-2).

27.          Administrative Skills: Give us a G.S who is gifted and skilled in administration of diversities; a leader who has administrative wisdom and energy to manage people and resources to fruitfulness. (1 Cor 12:28,  Romans 13:4,14:16 – 18).

28.          Wisdom and Fear of the Lord: God, give us a General Secretary who will lead us in the wisdom of God not in carnal intellectualism, human philosophy, politicised manipulation and empty stories; a leader who fears the Lord in private and in public. (Prov. 4; Prov. 8; 1 Cor 2:1-5).

29.          Word of God: God, give us a G.S. who has the Word of God; a leader who is filled with the Word of God and live by the Word of God; a leader who can feed the flock with correct doctrine and Word that is light (Col 3:16; 2Tim 2:15).

30.          Good Manager of Financial Resources: Pray that God will give us a G.S. who is neither a waster nor a vagabond. Pray for a wise investor, a true and faithful manager under whose leadership the financial resources of NBC will increase and be wisely used for propagation of the Gospel (Matthew 25:14-30).

31.          Bridge Builder and Vanguard of Peace: Pray that God will give us a G.S. full of the love of God and meekness of Jesus; someone who will bind all factions together in love and unity; a person who will continue the good work of reconciliation and peace. (Phil. 2:1-2; Philemon 1: 8-10).

32.          Good Manager of NBC Human Resources: Pray that God will give us a G.S. who will minister effectively to all age groups irrespective of their location, gender, tribe or calling. A person under whose ministrations NBC members will locate their areas of calling and be willing to fulfil their ministries. (Matthew 24:46-51).

33.          Spiritual Gifts: God, give us a G.S. who is loaded with spiritual gifts needed to operate successfully in office at such a time as this; a person whose gifts will draw non-Christians to the saving cross of Jesus Christ and bring open heavens to believers (1 Cor. 12:4-7).

34.          A True Light; Dead to Self: Pray that God will give us a General Secretary who God's Spirit has conquered; whose will has been broken; whose personal agenda has been overturned;  whose carnal soul has been shredded, who is dead to self such than the purity of Holy Spirit can ooze out to convict the followers of sin, of judgement and of righteousness.(Gal. 5:15-26, Gal. 2:20-22, Luke 9:23; Phil. 1: 20-26, 2 Cor. 4:10-12) .

35.          Revival Consciousness: Pray that God will give us a General Secretary who is hungry and thirsty for revival. A leader who is highly dissatisfied with mediocrity of the statuesque. Pray for a General Secretary who is thirsty for a Church without spot or wrinkle. (John 3:1-6). Ready to make road for second coming of Christ (Rev. 22:14): Give us a leader who is conscious of the second coming of Jesus and is devoted to making His Bride ready for rapture.

36.          Health: Pray that God will give us a General Secretary who is healthy spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally, psychologically and ethically. (3 John1:2).

37.          Spiritual Fruits: God, give us a G.S. who will be full of the Holy Spirit; who bears the fruit of the Holy Spirit and love, joy, peace, endurance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Gal. 5:22-25).

38.          Holy and Diligent (Hebrews 12:14-29) Oh Lord, give us a holy man of peace who will “make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord'. Give us a leader who will “ See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many”, who will not be  sexually immoral, or godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.  Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears.”

39.          Belonging to the Body of Christ: God, give us a G.S. who sees the big picture of the Church universal. A leader who is sensitive to the wholeness and oneness of the Body of Christ; who has a burden beyond denominational borders; a leader who will lead NBC to become a model for the Church universal; and a leading light in the  Body of Christ.(1 Cor. 3:8-17).

40.          Thanksgiving and Worship: Thank God for answered prayer. Worship God and accept the new General Secretary by faith. Celebrate a brighter future, a jubilee, kingdom expansion and a bountiful harvest of souls. (Hebrew 1:6-8).
